Consecutive interpretation – Interpreter is present in meeting room, listing to source language and taking notes. When speaker pauses, interpreter can translate source language into target language clearly, fluently and accurately. Generally, an interpreter is supposed to be able to take note of and interpret 5-10 minutes of speaking by intervals. There is an essential difference between simultaneous interpretation and consecutive interpretation for conference in terms of quality requirement and challenging nature.

For United Union, all speeches adopted consecutive interpretation. Some interpreters went so far as to be able to make motes of 30 minutes of speech and then put in another language.

In comparison with simultaneous interpretation, consecutive interpretation is more challenging for instant memory, accuracy, and professionalism. As an independent discipline, consecutive interpretation has its own features and rules.
